Communities United could not be successful in our work to advance social justice without a large base of grassroots leaders and supporters across Chicago and Illinois. Since the organization was founded in 2000, we have engaged tens of thousands of community members and partners to concretely improve the lives of people in our neighborhoods, city and state. A few recent highlights include:

Dismantling the school-to-prison pipeline in Illinois by securing the nation's most comprehensive school discipline reform

Securing measures that make Chicago a national leader in protecting renters rights and spearheading an innovative model of preserving affordable housing

Advancing efforts to address school safety through a trauma-informed approach, resulting in the state’s Rethinking Safety initiative, a grant program for school districts to expand mental and behavioral health supports
